Scolopendra piceoflava

Wild caught female measuring approximately 6 to 7 inches. This impressive Sulawesi species is known for its striking black and yellow coloration and may reach around 8 to 10 inches when fully grown.

She will require an extremely secure, escape proof enclosure with a tightly latching lid and good ventilation. Provide approximately 4 to 6 inches of moisture retaining substrate for burrowing, along with cork bark or another dark surface hide. Keep one side of the substrate damp while allowing the opposite side to remain slightly drier. The substrate should never become waterlogged or stagnant.

Maintain temperatures around 75°F to 85°F with humidity between 75% and 80%. A shallow water dish should always be available. If supplemental heat is necessary, use a thermostat controlled heat source placed against the side of the enclosure.

Feed appropriately sized roaches, crickets, or mealworms approximately once every one to two weeks. Remove uneaten prey within 12 hours. Do not offer food for at least one week following a molt because the new exoskeleton and fangs need time to harden.

This is an extremely fast, reclusive, and venomous centipede intended only for experienced keepers. It should never be handled. A bite can be extremely painful and medically significant.
